My favorite time of the year is here! Fall is easily my favorite season out of them all — the weather is cooling down from the blistering dog days of summer, leaves are slowly transforming a variety of red and orange and yellow, and it’s time for the AgileDC conference! The largest Agile community organized event in the Washington DC area, the conference brings together thought leaders and practitioners from government, not-for-profits, and private industry alike. The conference also gives you a little reminder that the year has flown by, I mean it’s already been three weeks since it was here!

*Fun Fact Time- Our very own Ben Morris and Jeff Farley were speaking, which is a huge deal. On average, only 20% of submissions for speakers are chosen, and we had TWO from our organization (toot toot!)*

In sad news, I wasn’t able to attend this year in light of performing my civic duty (jury duty). On the positive side, I was privileged to be in the loop of feedback from colleagues who attended. You can bet your bottom dollar I will be front and center next year at the STSI table! Please join me in living vicariously through them.

Some of the talks we went to…

  • The Nine Levels of Agile Hell… and How To Get Out!
  • Complexity is the Enemy! How Agile Practices Allow Us to Operate in a VUCA World).
  • Observational Skills
  • Intro to The Dojo Method
  • Agile the Hard Way — Lessons from a Government Project <- Ben Morris
  • Culture of Craftsmanship
  • Shifting Security Left
  • DevOps Patterns for Microservices
  • Bring a Scarecrow <- Jeff Farley

Reviews

“This was my first Agile DC event and I was very impressed with the variety of discussions. Everything from working at government agencies, being a BA in an Agile world, 9 levels of Agile hell, continuous testing, and everything in between. It was good to see other people experience the same pain points that I witness and to see how they overcome it.”

“I like that there was always at least one developer or DevOps focused session in each time slot. They also seemed to have tracks for managers, product owners, etc. This allowed attendees to have an entire day of sessions geared towards the type of work they do. I really enjoyed attending and learned a lot. Thanks STSI!”

“Thumbs up to the attendees who came to network, and two thumbs up for the endless supply of chicken, peas and rice served during lunch (-:”

I’m glad our team was able to have some great takeaways from the event. It sounds like a good time was had by all. I can’t wait for next year when I’ll be able to share my first-hand experience with you. The countdown starts now.

*Bonus*

Our team is so generous and resourceful, they shared these useful links with content from the conference!
